The 50th Anniversary season for the Washington Capitals was one of many milestones for the team and many of its players. Their head coach is now adding to the accolades received, Spencer Carbery is the winner of the Jack Adams Awards.
The award is virtually known as the NHL's coach of the year, voted on by the NHL Broadcasters' Association.
Carbery led the Capitals to a 51-22-9 record this season, which was tops in the Metropolitan Division, and also the best in the Eastern Conference, and second best in the entire NHL.
The Capitals had the fourth most points and wins in a single season in franchise history.
In a season where many prognosticators predicted the Capitals to finish near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Washington improved their point total by 20 over their previous season, which was Carbery's first year on the bench for the Capitals.
This season, nine Capitals players had career years in goals and points, three of whom were in the first season in Washington. (Pierre-Luc Dubois - 66 points; Jakob Chychrun -47 points, and Brandon Duhaime - 21 points)
Carbery becomes the first ever coach to win coach of the year awards in the NHL, AHL, and the ECHL. Carbery winning the AHL's Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award with the Hershey Bears in 2020-2021, and the ECHL's John Brophy Coach of the Year Awards with the South Carolina Stingrays in 2013-2014.
