Commanders special teams standout Jeremy Reaves has made himself a home in Washington since joining the team in 2018.

It appears the DMV will remain his home for the foreseeable future.

On Wednesday, news broke that Reaves has signed a one-year contract extension that keeps him in Washington through the 2026 season.

"It's a blessing, man," Reaves told reporters after Wednesday's practice. "I think of when I first got here and everything that I went through, all the tough days I went through."

"I got a chance to talk to AP and DQ before practice and just tell them it's nice to just be wanted and feel like what I do matters, so I'm just filled with gratitude," he added.

In 2024-25, Reaves played in every regular season game and all three of the Commanders' postseason games. Over his tenure, he has proved to be a reliable part of Washington's special teams unit and a valuable player in the locker room.

"I was just talking to some young guys and telling them if you take anything from me, understand that the turtle does win the race," Reaves said.

Reaves is a 2023 Pro Bowl starter and had a breakout season in 2022. That year, he was selected for his first Pro Bowl, in addition to being AP First-Team All-Pro and Special Teams Player of the Year.

This season, Reaves said he wrote down a few of his personal goals before OTAs.

"I got a couple I'll share," he said to 7News Sports Reporter Natalie Spala. "To be All-Pro again, to be a Pro-Bowler again, to earn my reps on defense, those are a few that I have."

"Just having fun," Reaves added. "I'm not worried about my reps or where I am on the depth chart. I've gotten back to the kid in football again, and just enjoying it, having fun."
