WASHINGTON (7NEWS) — Get ready for clear, bright nights heading into the weekend the second weekend of October.
The moon will reach full illumination at 4:55 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 9, 2022.
To catch the full moonrise you will want to look toward the east southeastern sky.
Sunset Sunday is at 6:40 p.m., so there will still be a little daylight at the moonrise, but you will still see the big bright orb rising over the horizon at 6:35 p.m.
You'll also see Jupiter to the upper right of the moon in the sky. Jupiter was the closest to Earth in nearly 6 decades in September, but it's still quite close to Earth for a great view.

This month's full moon name is the 'Hunter Moon.'
The names of the full moons date back to Native American tribes who created the names for the full moon each month in order to keep track of the passing year. As the Native Americans prepared for the cold months ahead, they looked to October’s full Moon as the signal to gather meat and food for the winter.
Make sure you share your Hunter's Moon photos with 7News, so we can share them on-air and on social media.
