TRAFFIC ALERT: Road closures take effect in DC ahead of Army 250th Birthday Parade

WASHINGTON (7News) — This upcoming weekend, a massive military parade is set to honor the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary, coinciding with President Donald Trump's 79th birthday. The event will also close many roads in the D.C. and Northern Virginia areas.

Alongside suspended flights out of Reagan National Airport (DCA), the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced the following road closures.

Emergency No Parking

Waterway Restrictions

There will also be waterway restrictions, including the below, according to MPD:

A temporary security zone will be set along the Potomac River and Anacostia River, and adjacent waters.

Waters are restricted from the 14th Street Bridge to the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and the Tidal Basin. The Washington Channel will remain open to all vessel traffic. The Security Zone will be established from June 13 at 2 p.m. until June 14 at 10 p.m.

From 2 p.m. on June 13 to 1 p.m. on June 14, if law enforcement vessels are present, mariners may need to seek permission to enter the zone by contacting the Captain of the Port via VHF-marine band radio channel 16 (156.8 MHz) or by calling (410) 576-2693. On June 14 from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m., no persons or vessels will be cleared to operate within or in the immediate vicinity of this zone.

The U.S. Coast Guard may be assisted in the patrol and enforcement of the zone by federal, state, and local agencies.
