WASHINGTON (7News) — It's never too late to go home.
The Gonzaga College High School boys' basketball program has a new head coach, and they hired one of their own.
Keith Urgo, a 1997 Gonzaga graduate, is now the head coach of the Purple Eagles.
Urgo has been in the college ranks for the last 18 years. Most recently, he was the head coach at Fordham University.
Urgo started coaching at Gonzaga in 2004 as the head coach of the freshman team.
7News spoke with Urgo about taking this job at his alma mater:
I cannot tell you how excited I am. My family and I are beyond thrilled to be back at Gonzaga. It's a full circle moment—a pretty surreal moment. The landscape has changed so much in college, I just feel like right now with the opportunity at Gonzaga, I can make a lot more of an impact on the high school level. I got into coaching to create change and to be a vehicle for boys to become men.
Urgo is getting right to work. On Tuesday, he had his first practice with his new team. A busy summer awaits as Urgo gets to know his new players and vice versa.
